Pennsylvania State Police are asking for your help locating a missing Bradford County man. They report little information and few leads in the disappearance of 49-year old Duane John Scott Jr. They say Scott has been missing since July from his Asylum Township home and hasn’t been seen since July in the Towanda area.
Scott is described as 5’11” tall, 180 pounds. He has blue eyes and gray hair. Anyone with information is urged to call the Pennsylvania State Police at (570) 265-2186.
A head on crash in Towanda left two people dead and a third in the hospital.
Officials say it happened Tuesday around 10:15 a.m. on State Route 220. Witnesses told police 44-year-old Scott Halboerster, was attempting to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone when he struck another vehicle head on. He and the driver of the other vehicle, 65-year-old John Ambrosone, of Hammondsport, were killed.
A minor was also in the vehicle with Halboerster. She was airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. There’s no word on her condition.
Halboerster was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A Bradford County, Pennsylvania, company has announced layoffs that will take effect later this year, due to declining sales. Global Tungsten and Powders Corporation will cut 150 positions at its Towanda facility, starting in September. The company is a supplier of tungsten and other products. The company says declining orders have forced the layoffs, but that it remains committed to continued growth at the Bradford county plant. Global Tungsten employs about a thousand workers worldwide and generates $600 million in annual sales.
The wife of a soldier serving in Afganistan was killed Saturday in a one car crash near Towanda, Bradford County.
20-year-old Paris Chilson of Wyalusing went off the road on Route 187 and traveled down a 20 foot embankment. Another driver found her Jeep at about 5PM. She suffered fatal head and neck injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.
Chilson leaves a young child as well as her husband.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating what caused the crash.
This was the second fatal Route 187 crash in the past week.
56-year-old Joanna Purdy-Thornton of Rome, Bradford County, died in a collision Wednesday in Terry Township.
Purdy was travelling south on State Route 187 and tried to make a left turn onto State Route 2010 eastbound.
42-year-old Michael Vognetz was traveling west on 2010 in a Chevy Silverado and collided with Purdy’s Suburu Legacy.
Purdy died at the scene; Vognetz was taken to the hospital in Towanda with minor injuries.
A DUI checkpoint in Towanda has lead to 7 arrests of driving under the influence. The check on Saturday also lead to 36 traffic citations and 2 misdemeanor arrests. It’s all a part of the Pennsylvania State Police’s Year-long Checkpoint Strike Force Two program. It started back in April in Bradford County and aims to get intoxicated motorists off the roads.
