A safety net for deployed troops employed within Broome County is being put on hold.

It’s called the Respect Act, and it’s designed to prevent those serving overseas from having their salaries cut before they get back. Not all lawmakers are in agreement that this legislation will be moving forward, however.

Dan Reynolds says that Democrats presented the Respect Act to preserve the benefits and salary of returning servicemen and women. But Reynolds says that it was killed in committee by Republicans. Jerry Marinich, the Chairman of the Broome County Legislature said this isn’t the case at all and the Respect Act is still very much alive.
