New York State Police are investigating a single car crash that happened Wednesday morning in Newark Valley.
The initial investigation revealed a 2002 Cheverolet, being operated by 54-year-old Lucinda Klees of Endicott was traveling northbound on State Route 38 when she struck the guide-rail end of a bridge off the southbound lane head on. Klees was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant, 34-year-old Patrick Ackley, of Berkshire, also died in the accident.
It happened on Route 38 in Newark Valley in the area between Wilson Creek Road and Brown Road which is near the Newark Valley High School.
The vehicle reportedly caught fire following the crash. The road was closed from midnight to nearly 7 AM. The Newark Valley Fire Department responded with Berkshire EMS and the New York State Police, who are still investigating the incident.
