Syracuse Murder Suspect Arrested in Broome County

A murder suspect in Syracuse has been taken into custody in Broome County. On Friday, 26-year-old Hanza Muhammad of North Syracuse was taken into police custody after his vehicle was located on Route 81 South in the Town of Dickinson.

Police say Muhammad is the suspect of a shooting that took place in the 800 block of Butternut Street on Syracuse’s north side, on October 8th.Muhammad was charged with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He was later sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center. The victim in the shooting was 22-year-old John White, who died from his injuries.

The Syracuse Police Chief says White was shot several times, but the gun has not yet been recovered. According to the Syracuse Police Chief, the two men knew each other and were fighting prior to the shooting. Both men had feuded in the past.
